INGRID AND LUCY LOVE 'BECKET'

My back still aches whenever I arch it, it is queer.

Sat on the logs outside R Hut at dinner break and tried to revise but Anya was pretending to be  Polnareff so it was impossible!

Walked down to town with Lucy after school and went into Originale where she got a lovely dish, which they call a baking-dish, for her mother. (She took ages choosing it.) Afterwards went to her house. Had tea, then she and me diligently did our homework (she in the sitting room and me in her parents' room). Changed into corduroy skirt and white jumper, hair in bunches, and had fab meringues for supper. 

At 7.15 we left for the Rembrandt to see Becket. It was really fab. Peter O'Toole was Henry II, he was marvellous (reminded me a bit of Alfred Lynch) and Richard Burton was Thomas Becket (he was good, but I couldn't help thinking he was Richard Burton, which spoilt it, since I dislike him). The scenery was beautiful - Canterbury Cathedral, a monastery with a pen of goats and cows, some woods with a marvellous castle (Isle of Wight?), some fab shots of the sea and the sea-shore. It's a pity Becket got so religious because he was rather nice before! Of course the King of France (John Gielgud) was mad thinking it meant so much to be king, and it all led to Becket being killed in the end. In the interval Lucy bought us choc ices.

It was a shame we missed T.O.T.P, and that programme on Swinging London, but at least the Frost Report wasn't any good (Ma said).

The Egyptians have asked for a cease-fire so it looks like the war is nearly over. Good old Israel!

Israel smashed the armed forces of Egypt, Jordan and Syria over six days. Britain's admiration for "plucky little Israel" was at its highest. However, the Six Day War was catastrophic for the Palestinians and Syrians, and created hundreds of thousands of refugees.
