THE FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST
T H U R S D A Y, 1 J U N E
In the reading in Prayers Anya suddenly prodded me. I turned round - "Finkelstein" she gasped, shaking all over. I couldn't believe it, all through the hymn I was biting at my thumb, I didn't sing, I couldn't. But, after all that… it wasn't him!!!
Lucy and me went to German Conv. as we missed the last one. I had to describe sailing - it was impossible. We had lunch on the logs outside 'R' as it was boiling hot and I did a bit of 'Silas Marner'.
P P Arnold was on T.O.T.P. with 'The First Cut is the Deepest' - marvellous song and Cat Stevens wrote it. He may be ghastly but he does write good songs. The Kinks on again, but Procol Harum not - so weedy. The Tremeloes are still No. 1 and Ma, Chump and me were killing ourselves over the Toffee Nosed Twit.
Haven't washed my hair for seven days now. It looks better the longer I leave it. Put on my Scallywags dress because I'd forgotten what it looked like.
“Wish my legs weren’t so spotty. If they were browner the spots wouldn’t show. ”
Wish the top of my legs were slimmer, they're ok for mini skirts but not for bathing costumes. Chump has got good legs, awfully long.
I haven't seen Dutronc for two months now. I wonder when he's coming to England? He's probably here already. I expect he thinks that if he did see us this summer, I would ignore him. I don't think he even realises I liked him. I refused to go out with him three times. It's my own fault I'm so cold with boys. I have a terror of being alone with them.
“The Tremeloes”
The ultra boring 'Silence is Golden' was No. 1 for three weeks. Toffee Nosed Twit is one of the two on the right; I can't remember which.
