STAGGERING POLNAREFF NEWS
S A T U R D A Y, 5 A U G
Lay in bed and imagained I met Dutronc on Paloma beach.
No sun streaming through my window today. Mummy and me drove into Beaulieu. We saw posters for concerts at the Casino and she's had a marvellous idea: Polnareff's going to be here on the 29th so there’ll be posters up soon and perhaps I’ll be able to get hold of one!!! We went into the fab charcuterie and bought a pizza for tonight. Then Ma told me how this morning Daddy was very rude about Eileen coming today. I was so mad he could be so selfish I told him so when we got back. He said he hadn’t meant it like that, and he made it up with Mummy by hugging her.
I got a letter from Anya and it’s absolutely staggering. She did go to the Knightsbridge, and found out the most incredible news.
Of course it'll be marvellous for his career but we won’t be able to contact him for ages - unless I leave a letter for him at wherever he’s appearing in Nice. So that’s what I’ll have to do. Anyway, she's so hilarious when she writes about all her emotions, and it inspired me so much Pol-wise, I wrote back to her immediately.
Then Eileen and Alan came. They all went to the beach for a swim but I decided to stay and finish my letter. We had a staggering lunch on the terrace – cheeses, pizza and charcuterie - and had 'petits fours' for tea. Eileen is absolutely sweet, she really is. All went to the beach for a swim, and then they left.
After supper Ma said there were some records in the cupboard. To my joy we found some marvellous ones, but I went wild when Chump said “here’s Polnareff”!!! We found a record player, and after a lot of fiddling, got it going. So we played records the whole evening, and I nearly went into a swoon. ‘Ne Me Marchez Pas’ is fantastic to dance to.
Daddy does Amsterdam Town Hall morning, noon and night.
