"The Sixth Form Centre is an egalitarian affair: 300 girls enter from secondary modern, independent and boarding schools over a wide area. Rosebery’s delightfully informal atmosphere belongs as much to the university as to a school." -  Design 1967 Journal

M O N D A Y,   2 7  N O V

Went at break to 1B to discuss the Xmas party we’re going to give the first-formers. Jackie (the one who looks like Dutronc) puts me in a bit of a swoon.

At one I had to go to the Art Room for a Lower Sixth play meeting. It was to practice miming (I’ve got to mime walking down a set of stairs and it’s impossible!). Susan C was there and I think she's ghastly. Just because the BBC are coming to talk to us about the Sixth Form Unit, all she can do is complain about how they’re wasting our free time. She ought to be jolly pleased we can help.

We talked about social classes in French Conv. Claire, Pat Sanderson, Joanna and me did all the talking, the others said not a word. We said we thought social classes are defined by money and by good education. But it isn’t just good education that can get you going, it’s your parents’ interest in you that is equally important. That’s why I think it’s very sad that the majority of parents talk of nothing except TV programmes and the price of things.

Listened to Johnnie Walker as usual. The more I listen the more I feel I’ve got to write to him again. There are so many things I want to say, like how it’s so dreadful that the government has illegalised free radio and for purely selfish reasons, not giving the slightest thought to the thousands if not millions it affects! And I think it’s marvellous to find people like the chaps on Caroline who are  so dedicated to what they’re doing that they stay on board at their own risk - and NOT in much comfort.

The photos of the Amsterdam Town Hall model have come: they’re marvellous. Pa will probably work for hours tonight. Tomorrow is the deadline day.
