DONOVAN SINGS ABOUT TRUTH AND LOVE

I read about Donovan in 'Rave' and he sounds a very nice person indeed. “I want to sing not only to the young of this generation, but also to their children – the two year olds and three year olds of the mod marriages. I want to sing to them about truth and love, so that they don’t get stunted by Batman.” Well, anyone who feels like that has got the right idea.

Mummy and me went to Headley Heath and picked masses of pussy willow. It looks like silver.

At 6.45 we left for London Airport to meet Pa. Super to have him back from Stockholm and I told him all about yesterday. The airport is very exciting at night, with sirens screeching and everything - there's a very international feeling.

Saw an interesting programme on the BBC about charities. Spastics is the most popular one.

Then watched Perry Mason - Daddy and Chump adore it.

Was Donovan the English Dylan?

Sort of - according to Donovan. “When I heard ‘Blowing in the Wind’ it was the clarion call to the new generation. I am the counterpart to what Bob represents in the USA - like troubadours, we can write about any facet of the human condition."

Donovan, a mystical flower power poet-musician, whose single 'Mellow Yellow' was a hit in 1967 (I thought it was drippy) had co-written the placards of Dylan's ‘Subterranean Homesick Blues’, and later introduced the Beatles to transcendental meditation and the Maharishi Yogi. Donovan continues to dream of a better world, calling meditation the “secret weapon for world peace."
