POVERTY IN HOPELESS BRITAIN

POVERTY IN HOPELESS BRITAIN

Had French dictee exam – I did weedily. Wore my thick stockings – they look super. German was ghastly because Miss Leopold put on her pitiful disappointed look which makes Lucy and me absolutely sick. Of course it’s our fault as well – we have just given up cooperating any more.

The nerve this decadent middle-class society has sending their children to public schools!

Panorama was excellent – it was on poverty in Britain. Daddy says The BBC is doing a jolly good job exposing the many faults of this lousy country – in the rest of Europe people are given enough family allowances to live on, and more. There are two and a half million children living under poverty conditions here, and this decadent middle-class society has the nerve to send their children to public schools – £500 a year for each child. What’s so sickening is that Britain is meant to be one of the richest countries in the world, and there are hundreds of people who believe that. Probably half my form do.

Am dreading tomorrow.
